About
Making History is a craft brand focused on creating kits that make history and textiles fun. it focuses on the decorative parts of sewing (adding beads, ribbon, sequins and embroidery) and the interesting parts of history.
I am a textile artist, educator and history enthusiast. I have been running a craft business dedicated to fabric books (Stitchbook Studio) for the past 10 years, but originally I trained as an illustrator. Making History was born from the desire to combine the Illustration and textile parts of my practice.
My hobbies all revolve around history in some way - I love to read history books, listen to history podcasts and spend most of my free-time roaming museums and historic sites. I’ve always been interested in how and why things are as they are, whether objects, technology, fashion or society.
I’ll be guiding you through some of the things that I’ve found interesting along my history exploration.
A note on History
I am not a historian, and the content has been pieced together from a collection of other sources to give you a quick introduction to each subject.
All of the information is as well researched as I can reasonably make it, but should be used as a starting point for further exploration rather than as a definitive guide.
Please let me know if there are any inaccuracies, omissions or problems with the information presented.
When designing craft kits I try and keep them as flexible and open as I can while still being practical. I believe in giving options for customisation, encouraging alteration and creating an environment where there are no wrong answers. Where possible the kits will have a suggested process with plenty of alternative suggestions and space for creative play.
